Itinerary:
AUGUST 23 EL PASO
Arrive El Paso and individual transfers on your own to your hotel (hotel
courtesy shuttle available, upon arriving to the airport call the hotel
for this service). This evening met in the lobby at 5:00 pm for our
welcome reception and briefing. Welcome dinner at a local restaurant.

AUGUST 24 EL PASO – CHIHUAHUA
Today’s destination is Chihuahua, capital of the state of the same name.
This afternoon’s city tour provides many opportunities to explore
Chihuahua’s fascinating history and exciting present. We visit colonial
and revolutionary landmarks such as the famous Pancho Villa’s home, the
Cathedral, the Spanish Aqueduct, murals at the State Capitol and
residential districts. This evening’s dinner introduces a sampling of the
regional fares served in this picturesque valley.

AUGUST 25 CHIHUAHUA – DIVISADERO
This morning we travel by private coach to Divisadero. On the way we will
visit the Mennonite community of Cuauhtémoc. It was settled by the
Mennonites shortly after the Mexican Revolution and has been developed as
one of the Mexico’s leading agricultural areas. Our local tour includes a
traditional light lunch. We will be able to browse through displays of
handcraft Mennonites quilts and comforters. After lunch we will continue
to Divisadero.
The view of the three Canyons that comprise the Copper Canyon makes
Divisadero (“The look out point”) and unforgettable stop on your trip
across the mountains. This area is four times larger that the Grand Canyon
and gives visitors many memorable vistas of the pristine mountains
wilderness.
This afternoon explore the mountains and canyons where the shy and
primitive Tarahumara Indian lives in crude Log cabins and caves. The
mysterious canyons conceal in their depth Indian caves and villages, old
Spanish mines and modern villages. This afternoon enjoy the beautiful
Tarahumara sunset over the Canyon.

AUGUST 26 DIVISADERO – EL FUERTE
All Aboard!!
This morning our tour guide will lead a walking tour along the canyon,
then use your free time to bargain with the Tarahumara Indians who sell
their handicrafts near the hotel. After lunch we will board the Ferromex
“Chepe” first class train coach for our rail trip through the rugged
terrain across Mexico’s Sierra Madre Mountains to Divisadero. Our rail
trip will continue through the Copper Canyon and the Colonial Town of El
Fuerte for overnight.

AUGUST 27 EL FUERTE
This morning we will ride to Tehueco (Blue Sky) Mayo Indian Mission. It is
the center for Mayo religious fiestas. Tehueco was founded in 1648. The
Mission church was built in 1650. The present structure next to the 1650
ruins was built in 1811.
This morning we will have the opportunity to get into a local home and see
the process of making tortillas by a local family, you may try to cook
one! Then we will enjoy a Mayo dancing exhibition by local Indians. Back
to El Fuerte.
This afternoon we will take a walking tour visiting the colonial church,
the municipal palace, the main plaza, the local market among others.

AUGUST 28 EL FUERTE – CREEL
All Aboard!!
Early this morning we will board the train and admire the beautiful
scenery on the return trip. The train winds and bores its way through
tunnels of the Tarahumara of the Western Sierra Madre. Tonight we will
stay at the lumber village of Creel.

AUGUST 29 CREEL – CASAS GRANDES
Early this morning we travel by private motorcoach to Casas Grandes, the
commercial center for this thriving region. A short distance from here are
the Paquime Ruins. During the afternoon we will tour the brand new Museum
of the Northern Cultures and Paquime Archaeology site, where both Pueblo
Indian and Mesoamerican influences are evident in the buildings,
ceremonial monuments and the large ball court. Before returning to the
hotel, we will stop at a local fabric where we will see a Pottery
demonstration with time opportunity to buy the famous Mata Ortiz Pottery.
Tonight join us for a Mexican Farewell Dinner Entertainment Show.

AUGUST 30 CASAS GRANDES – EL PASO
It’s time to return. We will depart at 8:00 am for the El Paso airport.
Arrive at approximately 12:00 pm. Please allow time for flight check-in.
Flights should not be booked before 2:00 pm.
